Hazel Hussey Pilates runs classes at Chesham Moor Gym and Swim.
What to expect: The classes are small and friendly, mixed ability classes, where everybody is welcome regardless of fitness level or previous Pilates experience.
There is a maximum of 10 clients per class to allow for individual attention to ensure that you get the most out of your Pilates workout.
As the classes are mixed ability a variety of options will be offered for some exercises, and individual adaptions will be made, to allow the class to be tailored to your level.
The classes are mat-based and vary each week by using different pieces of small equipment such as the flex-band and mini-stability ball, to help maintain your interest levels and keep you motivated.
The exercises performed are a contemporary approach to the original exercises taught by Joseph Pilates himself. They are a series of exact and controlled movements that lengthen and strengthen the muscles simultaneously.
Results and Benefits: Pilates is a whole body workout which will improve your strength, flexibility and muscle tone.
Pilates can also help to improve your posture as it rebalances the body by working opposing muscle groups evenly and includes exercises which move the body through all planes of movement. This balanced approach to exercise can aid rehabilitation and help to prevent future injuries.
Pilates can also help to relieve stress as it requires focus and concentration to perform the exercises correctly, allowing you to focus inwardly on your body rather than your everyday stresses.
People with low back pain can also benefit from Pilates. It strengthens the deep stabilising muscles of the torso which attach to the spine at the back and wrap around the sides of the body to meet at the front. Strengthening these muscles acts like tightening a corset to support the lumbar spine, with the added bonus of streamlining the figure and improving posture.
What to Wear: All equipment is provided so all you need to bring is yourself and a bottle of water. You will want to wear something that is comfortable and easy to move in. It is a,so a good idea to wear layers as some exercises will work you harder than others.
You do not need sports shoes as the exercises are performed wearing socks or barefooted.
